In-family relationships often define who we are and how we present in life. This song is a reflection on the complex mother-son dynamic that in part shaped me.

Lyrics

Verse 1
Our shadow is an outline of a former self
A shadow is a symbol of potential
Against the wall I see my mother smoking cigarettes
Like a blueprint for a healthier credential

Verse 2
Reflections on the water tend to hypnotize
Below the surface light and shade they dance
Drowning in our endless expectations
Careful don't you ruin this one off chance

Chorus 1
As the bird sang the evening chorus
We thought that love was real
But the moon moved between the earth and sun
I lost direction, the dark was real
I lost direction

Verse 3
Our shadow is a copy of a future self
Behind, in front, for all the world to see
In a flash of light I saw your endless wonder
Dimension number two had turned to three

Verse 4
On Jupiter I saw the passing of a moon
A perfect form in shadow on the surface
Without the light the world would be a different place
Denied the million dollar smile on your face.

Chorus 2
As the bird sang the evening chorus
We thought that love was real
But the moon moved between the earth and sun
I lost direction, the dark was real.
I lost direction
